1-minute summary

Christoph Standl talks in this episode about football and table tennis, two sports that have accompanied him throughout his life. He explains that the indoor football season starts again in autumn, something he looks forward to every year, with no big goal, just playing together. He emphasizes that ball sports help him switch off completely, since the fast pace leaves no room to think about projects, finances or emails. While running or hiking still allow him to think, football and table tennis force him to be fully present in the moment. He says that as an entrepreneur his mind rarely truly rests, so such breaks are necessary to make space for new ideas afterwards. Switching off, he notes, doesn't mean being less ambitious, but rather balancing performance with recovery. Sometimes problems aren't solved by sitting longer at the computer, but by playing, laughing and sharing a beer together afterwards. He looks forward to the new season and to moments where the company isn't the focus, just the game and the fun.

Description

Today it's about a completely different topic: football and table tennis.

Football has been with me my whole life, and I've always enjoyed playing table tennis too. Right now in autumn, our regular indoor football round is starting up again – and every time I notice how good this kind of sport does me.

Because while running or hiking I still find myself thinking about the company, projects or new ideas, something different happens when playing with a ball:

The ball forces me to be in the moment.

For a while there are no emails, no finances, no projects and no AI agents. It's simply about the game, movement, fun and the people you play with.

And that's exactly where I see a connection to entrepreneurship: performance needs balance. Sometimes a clear head doesn't come from another hour in front of the computer, but from consciously switching off.

And if there's a ball involved, all the better.

And remember: big changes often begin with small daily steps.
