Why speed matters more than perfection

1-minute summary

In this episode of his CEO diary, Christoph Standl talks about an insight that has completely changed for him in recent months: speed matters more than perfection. He used to think a product or an idea had to be perfect before you show it – today he thinks exactly the opposite. Perfection is important, but it must not keep you from starting at all. He notices this right now with the podcast: the first episodes are certainly not perfect, maybe he stumbles over words, maybe the microphone could be better, maybe in a year he'll smile at the first episodes – but every episode makes him a little bit better. Tourismus Interaktiv is having the very same experience: with artificial intelligence, ideas can be tested much faster today than a few years ago, and the Company Brain is being built step by step – not everything is perfect from day one, but every week they learn. Many people wait for the perfect moment, the perfect plan or the point at which they feel ready. His experience is different: the perfect moment usually only comes after you have begun. Only by doing does experience arise, from it better decisions, and many small improvements lead in the long run to a really good result. Speed doesn't mean acting rashly, it means learning continuously. His question: what would you start today if you didn't feel you had to be perfect right away? Big changes often begin with small daily steps.
